AfterMath - A LoD Modification for Diablo v1.10 Final

Character Creation

The purpose of this page is to provide a brief summary of what you will see when you create a new character. There are several things to consider.

(1) All characters start at character level 5 with 4900 experience.

(2) All characters start with 10 to their primary stats: Strength, Dexterity, Energy, and Vitality. Every character has 75 stat points to invest as they see fit.

(3) All characters start with 5 skill points.

(4) All characters start with a specific bonus to that class. Amazons gain a bonus 15% to pierce. Assassins gain a 15% attack speed bonus. Barbarians gain a 5% bonus to crushing blow. Druids gain an extra 150 life regeneration. Necromancers gain an extra 10% bonus to their mana recovery. Paladins gain a 5% experience bonus. Sorceresses gain an extra 5 mana per kill.

(5) Beside each character's primary stats is your current value (in white) and your base (in gold). To display your base statistics, simply look at the orange charm in your inventory. That charm contains a number of important features one of which is a charged skill called Display Base Stats. Use this skill whenever you want to see your base stats. The character screen will default to 0 when the Display Base Stats skill is not active.

(6) Immediately to the left of your Dexterity is an important field: your Encumbrance (ECM) and your Aptitude (APT). Unlike D2 where any player and any build can wear any gear they want provided they invest enough into Dexterity and Strength, this is no longer the case. Every character gains Encumbrance by the skills they invested in. A list of what skills improve encumbrance is found on the center hidden passive skill on the character's skill tabs. The gold value in the character's saved ECM - if you want to increase this saved value (and therefore use better gear), consume a Potion of Encumbrance Permanency - 4 of which are included in your inventory. Extra potions can be purchased from Akara or extra potions can be created in your Horadric Cube.

Aptitude improves as the character levels up and invests in Strength, Dexterity, and Energy. Skills can only be improved when a character has sufficient aptitude.

(7) Immediately below Vitality is a field 'SCP' - Skill Category Points are earned when a character invests in a skill. The more melee focused that skill is, the the more SCP is earned. SCP is directly linked a character's life. More information can be found on the Statistics page.

(8) Below SCP is a field RGN (Life Regneration) with two values in it. In this modification of Diablo II, healing potions are largely ineffective. The vast majority of your life will be healed by life regenation. The two values are first - your passive life regen that every character has and second, any life regeneration you have from gear. The actual amount of life healed per second is the displayed value divided by 10.

(9) At the bottom right corner of the character screen, you will see your character's resistances. Each character will start at -50% resistance with a maximum of 0% that can slowly be increased over time. If you want to display the maximum value that your resistances can have, again make use of your orange character charm. A second charged skill called Display Maximum Resistances can be found there. Use this skill to display your maximum resistances. The character screen will default to 0 when Display Maximum Resistances is not active.

Important Notice

A number of features in this modification are controlled by passive skills. For those unfamiliar with editing this game, there are inheritant issues that arise because of how Blizzard coded the game with regards to using passive skills - especially in the way I need to in order to accomplish many of the game's new features. Hopefully Phrozenkeep will create a plugin that will alleviate these issues. Until then, it is strongly suggested that you make use of the last charged skill on the orange character charm - namely the Skill Updater. This skill will update all passives and in so doing, correct any misleading numbers on the character screen.
